Ooooooh!  Have I got a spooky treat for you!

Enough of the cute spiders!
If you follow this blog you'll have noticed quite a few 'cute' spider treats and crafts for Halloween.

Not today!  Oh no...
These spider 'bites' (get it?) are not for the timid!

I apologize in advance to my mother and sister-in-law who can't stand spiders, even if they're chocolaty and cute!
In fact, they've stopped reading my blog posts when they see the word 'spider' in the title.
Next year, maybe I'll stick to pumpkins or cats?

 The ingredients are simple.

-chocolate chips
-Golden Oreo cookies
-purple seedless grapes
-brown M&M's

Directions:

In a microwave safe bowl, melt 3/4 cup chocolate chips in the microwave for a minute.
Stir and heat for 30-60 more seconds until smooth and completely melted.  Cool for a minute and pour melted chocolate into a small ziploc.  Make a tiny snip on one corner of the ziploc for easy piping.

On top of each Golden Oreo, use the melted chocolate to make a blob with 8 legs.  There's no exact science to this however, a slight bend in the legs makes the spiders more realistic.

You do want these to look 'sort' of real, don't you?

Immediately stick 1 washed grape and 1 brown M&M
into the chocolate blob.
Just in case you weren't sure, the grape is the body, the M&M candy is the head.

Make an entire platter of black widow spiders to crawl across your table or take to a party.

The big question is...will you eat one without squirming?

Happy Halloween!

Here's a Spooky Spider Web Smoothie for you!

Need a quick concoction for Halloween?
This green smoothie is delicious.

It's super simple, too.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup of orange/mango juice
1 handful of spinach
1 green apple cored, peeled and cut
a few ice cubes

Blend in mixer.  You'll be surprised how good this tastes!
My kids actually approved!
(This is saying a lot, since they turn up their noses at all green smoothies!  Halloween is a great time to give green smoothies another try.  You've got to get something healthy in them-- as they feast on too many sweets!)

Speaking of sweets--the candy webs.
Melt white Candy Melts in microwave.
Scoop into a small Ziploc and snip the corner with scissors.

On a baking sheet covered with waxed paper, pipe a web shape.
(It took a few trial runs, but I eventually got the hang of it.  I'm sure you'll figure it out WAY before I did!)

Let dry for 15-20 minutes before removing from sheet.

Stick web into smoothie and hook on a plastic spider ring.

Enjoy!

Here's some more spider fun for you.

Here's another chocolaty spider treat for you.
 Creepy Crawly Cupcakes
Have you seen them 'hanging' around the 'web'?

Well, my version won't have you 'stuck' in the kitchen...

In fact, the hardest part of crafting these cupcakes is finding the black shoestring licorice. (Eventually found at a random Dollar Plus store.)

Simply bake up a batch of chocolate cupcakes and frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.
(Boxed mix with canned frosting always works when running short on time, plus my kids think they're better than the ones I slave away at!?  Crazy kids!)Cover the entire frosted top with chocolate jimmies sprinkles.

Add on two candy eyes.
(found at grocery stores and craft stores.)

Using a toothpick, make 4 small holes into each side of the cupcake.
Cut licorice into desired length and stick one piece in each hole.
Bend licorice a bit to make legs look more realistic.

Extra long licorice pieces create Daddy Long Leg spiders!
Watch out!

Spiders don't last long in our house!
