A Candy Cane Cake

The Candy Cane Birthday Party prep continues...
Today, it's all about the cake!

A Candy Cane Cake...of course.

(2)  8 inch white round cakes
(1)  8 inch chocolate round cake
1 box of raspberry JELLO
Lots of buttercream frosting
1 box of candy canes crushed

I cheated and made my cakes from a boxed mix.
(That's kind of mandatory at this time of year!)
Now, I have to ask, "Have you ever tried the Poke Cake Method?"
You know, when you poke holes in your cake, pour JELLO over the top and refrigerate.  Mmmmm!
Definitely worth trying.
The only downside is waiting 3 hours for it to set in the refrigerator...that and I should have poked a few more holes.

I stacked my cakes (chocolate layer in the middle) and gave them a huge dose of our favorite buttercream frosting.

1/2 cup butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup light cream
1 tsp vanilla
In a large mixer, cream butter and half of the sugar until light and creamy.
Add the cream and vanilla.
Gradually beat in the rest of the sugar until smooth.

...and then sprinkled (very heavily) with crushed candy canes.
Is this not the easiest way to decorate a cake?

I had to add a coordinating ribbon, too!
No need to worry about the frosting being perfect!
The candy canes cover everything.

Love it.

Pure delight!
