Simple Sweet 16 Party

Believe it or not, our daughter turned 16 this month.  She also got her driver's license and went to her first semi-formal dance--all in the same week-end!  Talk about overload for a mom...it's so hard watching my baby girl grow up...I'm quite emotional!

To celebrate her day we had a simple 'wintry' Sweet 16 dinner party.  Come take a look at how this came together so easily.

The trick to a simple party is choosing one color!  My daughter requested turquoise...so turquoise it was.

Turquoise tablecloth--
it's actually a sheet I found at Goodwill.
Turquoise paper plates, straws and napkins
Turquoise ornaments
Bluish chargers

I wrapped styrofoam cones with shiny turquoise wrapping paper. Turquoise netting, snowflakes and thick turquoise ribbon added a fun, soft look down the center of the table.

16 turquoise balloons hung down from the ceiling with turquoise curling ribbon.  (16 balloons makes quite the statement!)

The gifts were in turquoise bags and wrappings.
A turquoise paper dot banner hung from the Sweet 16 headboard, turned chalkboard.  (I love to change out the wording on that chalkboard!)

And of course a turquoise party needs a turquoise cake!  Crushed turquoise candy canes provided the easy 'wow' factor to a basic three layer cake with buttercream frosting.  This isn't the first time I've done this!

A turquoise cake needs turquoise ice cream.
Blue Bunny Birthday Party flavor did the trick.

Sixteen Candles, of course.

A Sweet 16 Party must have sweets, right?
Here's a few tricks for a simple dessert table that only looks impressive.

Use a small table.
Use glass containers for more than just sweets.
Stick to the color theme.

Turquoise netting inside glass vessels add to the decor.
Turquoise party favors (mittens in cellophane bags) displayed in a glass pedestal bowl looks festive and full.
Turquoise colored candies in glass containers completes the look.

I can hardly believe it!  Happy 16th Birthday, Kid!
