When a friend of mine was dealing with chronic pain after a surgery, I tried to come up with ways to comfort her. My words wouldn't give her the lasting comfort and peace that she was needing, but HIS words would.

I found this sweet ceramic lamb planter and planted a little succulent plant in it.
I typed up a few of my favorite comforting scriptures and printed them on cardstock.

I assembled the cards using small black straws, coordinating washi tape and ribbon.
(Scroll down for the link to print your own cards.)
Trim cards, tape the straw onto the cards and tie a ribbon to the top.

The scriptures on the straws make it easy to stick them in a plant.
I thought my friend could switch out the scripture cards or place the extra cards in other plants around her home. I prayed that as she read these verses, she would feel the peace and comfort that only God could provide her. A peace that soothes her and reminds her that He is with her. That He cares for her and loves her, even in the pain and suffering.

What does it tell you that my blog is full of multiple surgery pun cards? Foot surgery, hip surgery, lap band surgery and now knee surgery. Yes, I'm getting old, my folks are getting old, my friends are getting old, hey- we're all getting old.
Like it or not, here's another printable pun card for a knee surgery or knee replacement recipient. Isn't life fun?

And you could add a few knee related gifts to your punny card.
Not that you 'kneed' to or anything, but it might bring a friend some 'knee'ed knee-slapping laughs. (Yes, I have completely overextended it on the knee puns. I can't stop!)

Here's a little shopping list to get you started.
-knee high hosiery
-knee high socks
-knee bandages
-knee patches
-kneeling pad for gardening
-bee themed products (You're the Bee's Knees.)

This post contains affiliate links to help you locate products.

And here's a few more....
Who knew there were so many knee related products?

My mom just had a knee replacement--hence the reason why I'm writing knee puns, so I gathered a few little things for her and attached the card to the box.

Fun hospital gift basket for any age @michellepaigeblogs.com

A dear church friend was unexpectedly in the hospital for about 4 days due to a colon infection.  On day 2 of his hospital stay, I heard that he was bored, bored, bored!  I knew I wanted to visit him, but what would I bring with me?
That's when I decided he needed an Un-Bored Basket!
You know.....a basket of things to keep him busy aka 'un-bored'.

It didn't matter that my friend is in his 70's, he desperately needed a distraction to keep his mind off being stuck in a hospital bed.
He's usually a busy-body around our church...fixing things, helping people, solving problems, visiting those in need, etc. etc.

I created a simple basket of fun things that would keep him from going crazy, or at least give him a little bit of  joy in the hospital.
By the way, this idea works for any age...just change up the items to suit each patient.

I used a basket I found at a thrift store and gathered up some fun wrapping paper, bright colored paper sacks, cardstock and curling ribbon.  Taking a gift to a hospital patient HAS to be full of bright colors and happiness, right?!  This is not the time for chic, mono-chromatic neutrals.  Take a look at some of the things I came up with.

-Mini Get Well Soon Balloon
-Magic Putty
-Chocolate
-Hot Wheel
-Playing Cards
-Fruity Drink
-Crayons and Coloring Book
-Jacks
-Bubble gum
-Candy
-Helicopter toy

**All of these items can be purchased at the Dollar Store or a drug store.

I then placed each item in a colored bag and stapled on a fun little note using colored cardstock.

Some of the gifts I wrapped up in playful wrapping paper--I thought unwrapping gifts could be a nice distraction, don't you think?  Take a look at some of the items.

I carried this basket into my friend's hospital room and immediately a huge smile spread across his face.
Of course I made him pose for a picture!

We visited for over an hour and as I left I told him he could get into his basket whenever he was bored.
Later, I heard that the first two bags he opened were the candy ones. Unfortunately he was on a liquid only diet...oops!
Note to self: Find out if there are any restrictions, BEFORE crafting up a basket.

PS- My friend Dan has quite an amazing story.  After he retired, he authored an autobiography titled, A Higher Calling- The Dan Miller Story (aff. link). He's a former Vietnam helicopter pilot and instructor that turned to professional gambling and watched his world fall apart. Thankfully his story doesn't end there. His book tells how he found God through interesting circumstances that included hearing a professional football player apologize to his wife.

Fun Gift for a Bored Hospital Patient

Thursday

I've got a Huey Lewis tune stuck in my head!
You're going to have it too, after reading this.

Yep, I've turned into my mother!  Remember when she had me make Lap Band Surgery cards?   Now, look at me!

A good friend of ours at church just had hip surgery.
I wanted to take him a few little get well soon treats...and somehow my 80's brain came up with this theme.
(Yes, he didn't really know what I referring to, but oh well...it's the thought that counts, right?)

Yes, ...I grew up listening and dancing to the music of the 80's.  What can I say?  Those tunes will always be in my head!  My best friend, Jana, had this album and we took turns listening to it on her walkman.  No joke!  Oh, the memories!

I wrapped a shoebox up with colorful wrapping paper and filled it up with 'square-shaped' snacks.  I also made some dark chocolate brownies packaged up in a cellophane bag with curling ribbon.
Square shaped pretzels, crackers and chocolates.  I even found some checkered ribbon in my stash.

Hip Surgery Gift

Friday

It's that time of year...
Lots of colds and flus are going around.
Lots of sick friends and classmates.
Here's a quick, little 'get well soon' gift to make and deliver
and show that you care.

I'm sure you've seen these little tissue boxes at Michaels Craft Store.  They're usually in the $1. bins.

I used large googly eyes found at the $1. store,

along with these tags.

Click here to print your own tags.

Trim tags to fit on the front of the box.
Adhere tag with a glue stick.

Hot glue on the googly eyes.
Extra large ones for the front.

Little ones on the sides and tops.

Cute, easy, thoughtful and useful!
My favorite kind of gifts.

What sick someone wouldn't want an
eyeball tissue box to cheer them up?

Stay healthy!
