What is it about the s'mores combination of graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate? Why can I never seem to get enough of this tasty treat? I'm not talking about s'mores made over a campfire. I'm talking about all the s'mores dessert mixes that keeping popping up in the stores.

s'more love to you printable     I made the HUGE mistake of buying one of those amazing Fannie May Chocolate Smore's Mix bags and eating the whole thing by myself...yep, didn't share one drop. When I was finished I was looking around for more. It was at this point that I decided I would make myself some more with the chocolate and marshmallows I had in my pantry. I just need a box of Golden Grahams cereal. After a quick trip to the store, I was in business.
Is my version as good as the Fannie May S'mores Mix? Well, not quite, but really, really close. This time I shared some with my husband and of course he loved it! I ended up making him his own stash and told him to hide it from me. My husband has chocolate self-control, I do not.

Warning...if you do not have chocolate self-control, only make this in front of people. Share this with your people, then get it out of your home.

s'more love snack mix

There's not much to this, no real recipe...just 3 ingredients:
-2-3 cups of mini marshmallows
-1 package of dark chocolate chips
-2-3 cups of Golden Grahams

Melt the entire bag of dark chocolate chips. I do this in the microwave. Cook 1 minute and stir. Cook an additional 30 seconds, stir. Cook 20 seconds, stir. Cook another 10 seconds and it should be all melted.

S'mores mix easy recipe

Stir in 2-3 cups of mini marshmallows and 2-3 cups of Golden Grahams cereal. You can decide how chocolatey you want it by reducing the amount of marshmallows and cereal.

Lay mixture on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper and place in fridge until set. (About 30-60 min.)
Break into pieces and place in a ziploc bag, cellophane treat bag or a mason jar.
Tie up with ribbon and the printable tag.
Enjoy.

Football Party Snack Mix

Tonight the Hawks are playing and we're ready with our family's favorite party snack mix...but this time we've changed it up a bit and added some Seahawks flair!  Yep, this one is for the true Hawk fans.
Not a Seattle Seahawks fan?  Gasp!   (Well...I guess you could always adapt it to fit the team you're rooting for?)

Football Party Snack Mix

We're going blue and green (Seahawks colors, of course) with this mix. Take a look!

Football Party Snack Mix
6 cups of popped popcorn.  I usually use microwave popcorn, but any kind of popped popcorn works.  Does not have to be buttered, oh--but it could be.

Football Party Snack Mix
Approximately 2-3 cups of Blue Corn Tortilla Chips. I broke the chips in half to make the mixing easier.

Football Party Snack Mix
2 cups of Baldwin Smacks cereal.  Doug Baldwin #89 is the Seahawks wide receiver and apparently he has his own cereal?  This cereal is found in Seattle area grocery stores.  (You could easily substitute Sugar Smacks cereal, instead.)

Football Party Snack Mix
2 cups of football shaped pretzels.  Have you seen these in your store?  (Substitute pretzel twists if you can't find these, but aren't they the cutest?!)

Football Party Snack Mix
2 cups miniature marshmallows.  I like the softness in the crunchy mix.

Football Party Snack Mix
1 cup Seahawks M&M's!  Yep, these candies are printed with the Seahawks logo!  Just the colors we're looking for, too.

Football Party Snack Mix
Mix all ingredients together in a very big container or extra large mixing bowl.

Football Party Snack Mix
Melt 1 package of white candy coating in the microwave for 1 minute intervals, stirring often.  Pour over the mixed ingredients, mix well and let dry for a few minutes.

Football Party Snack Mix

That's it, enjoy...and Go HAWKS!

Fall snack mixes to make and give.

We've just returned from visiting friends in Albuquerque, New Mexico. (No matter how many times I try to spell Albuquerque, I keep spelling it wrong!) We had an amazing whirlwind of a trip and we even spent some time at the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta!  What a treat!  I couldn't believe all the gorgeous hot air balloons. The colors and sights were out of this world! I could've stayed the whole week just to watch them all! The beauty of the balloons was mesmerizing! Can you even believe these shots were taken from my phone!

Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta!

We stayed in our friends' beautifully decorated Southwestern home. My friend LOVES to decorate for every season! Bins and bins of seasonal decor line their enormous RV garage. Their home was decked out in everything fall and autumn. Pumpkins, squash, gourds, hay bales, scarecrows, etc. etc. It was over the top! She even had fall leaf salt and pepper shakers and pumpkin shaped place mats!
One thing that my husband and I noticed was the snack mixes she had out while we were there. They were displayed in pumpkin shaped pottery and left out the entire week-end on the counter. Her mixes were simple combinations of spicy nuts
(everything is spicy in New Mexico) and candy corn. It was the perfect thing to leave out for guests. If someone needs a snack, it's there...and they don't even have to ask or snoop around the kitchen.
I should tell you that we were constantly eating amazing (spicy) delicious food all week-end, so we really didn't need the snack mixes, but nonetheless it got me thinking on how I can be a better hostess when guests stay with us.  And we just happen to have guests staying with us this week-end, so I'll be whipping up a few of these mixes.  Take a look.

I'll start with our family's favorite mix...It really is soooo good! I'd like to blame this mix for my tight fitting pants!
Everyone always asks for the recipe.

When you think of an African safari, you automatically think meatballs, right?!?  Who would ever put safari and meatballs together?  I mean, do they even eat meatballs in Africa?

Did you see our African Safari Party?  Click here if you missed it.
I served meatballs because I knew we would have a bunch of men and teenagers at the party.  I just happen to know that men and teenagers LOVE meatballs.  To make the meatballs go with the party theme, I threw in pineapple.  You know, tropical fruit...African safari.  Alright, maybe a stretch?

Well, those Pineapple Meatballs were the hit of the party... besides the fun safari decor, right?  Those teenagers kept going back and back and back again to get their fill.  The adults kept asking for the recipe, so here it is.  It's so simple that I'm a bit embarrassed to have a whole blog post about them.

In a crockpot stir together:
-1 16oz. can of pineapple chunks or tidbits with liquid
-1 24oz. bottle of ketchup
-1 cup brown sugar
-1/2 cup real maple syrup (make sure it's REAL maple syrup)
-1/4 cup soy sauce
Add in 2 (20oz) bags of Trader Joe's Party Size Mini Meatballs.  Cook on low for at least 3 hours.

These Trader Joe's meatballs in the party size are the best!
Of course you could make your own meatballs, but then this recipe could no longer be called quick and easy, now would it?

Monday

If you've read my blog before, you know that dark chocolate is my absolute favorite!  Actually, any chocolate seems to call my name, but especially dark.  My addiction is a bit of a problem, so I have to have a good reason to make chocolatey treats.

Reason #1:  I was sent this amazing dark chocolate in the mail from Chocoley.
Reason #2:  My New Year's Goal of limiting sweets lasted maybe 3 days?  I can't start up again until I make 'something' with this incredible chocolate! ( I guess I could just eat it straight from the package...hold on...yep, that's good, too.)
Reason #3:  It's the perfect treat to give away for Valentine's Day. (Yes, I know it's January, but one can celebrate Valentine's Day early, right?)

Actually, this Chocolate Chow Mix can be made for any occasion--President's Day, Groundhog Day, Tuesday, Friday...  Just be sure to package immediately-- otherwise, you'll end up eating the entire thing by yourself. (Not that I've experienced that...)

Chocolate Chow Mix
Recipe adapted from here.

Ingredients:
-1 lb. Dark chocolate    I used :Bada Bing Bada Boom Dipping & Coating Gourmet Compound Chocolate

  •  -4 cups Chex cereal
  •  -2 cups mini marshmallows
  •  -2 cups crushed powdered donuts

  • Directions:
In a large bowl, combine cereal, marshmallows and donuts. Mix gently.

    Melt chocolate.
I used a double boiler, but you could use the microwave.
If using the stove top, do not let the water touch the bottom of the double boiler. Only let the water simmer.  Stir chocolate until melted and smooth.

If you must use microwave, melt on medium heat for short periods being very careful not to overheat the chocolate.

  • -Remove from heat, then stir melted chocolate into the cereal, marshmallow and donut mixture.

  • -Spread mixture on a wax paper lined baking sheet.
  • Let the chocolate harden on the counter for 30-60 minutes. (if you can wait that long.)

  • Once cooled, break into small pieces.
  • Seal in an airtight container in refrigerator until ready to serve or bag up to give away.

  • I made some little printable tags to attach to these treats.  Perfect for Valentine's Day.

I used red striped cellophane bags and red baker's twine. (found at Target.)

Click here for your printable tags.

    Happy Valentine's Day!
