Friday

I'm digging out some old valentine scrapbook pages to share.

I made pockets for the valentines by sewing ribbon directly to the page.

I sewed around the picture as well.

I found super-thick ribbon for this page.
The letters are stickers.

On this page, the letters are from Quickutz.
The polka-dot ribbon is glued down on top of the valentines.

This was special paper that had the word LOVE cut out.

It's funny to look back and see these old valentine pages from when the kids were little.  Once they started reading, I was no longer allowed to scrapbook their valentines.  Instead their valentines are tucked away in their rooms and read over and over and over.  Love that!

Thursday

1 Thess. 5:16
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
My, this is a hard verse to live out, especially when I'm in the middle of a huge crisis... or a big problem that I can't see the way out of... or a health scare... or a crazy kid issue...or even today with a silly, simple errand!
We had had one of those mornings with kids frantically finishing up their homework, last minute lunches being made, voices raised as we ran out the door to wait for a very late bus.  As I waved good-bye to my kids, I noticed my car light flashing 'fuel level low.'  My thoughts take over...

"Ugh!  I don't have time for this, my meeting starts soon!  Why didn't I notice this yesterday?  I'm going to have to get gas before I get on the freeway.  It's too cold to get out of my car!  My car is so dirty and I'm in my nice clothes.  I don't want to touch that nozzle, where are those anti-bacterial wipes?  If only I had filled up last night when I was out.  Oh, I'm going to be so late!"

My attitude was terrible, as I let my thoughts continue to escalate.
"Oh great, I have to wait in line.  Why is that guy taking so long?"  As I drive around to the other side of the pump, I notice it's out of order.  "Grrrr!"

Yes, my car needed fuel and apparently I did too!
I start asking myself questions as I wait for the tank to fill.
Why can't I handle a little inconvenience?  Why do I let my negative thoughts take over?  Why am I so worried about being a bit late?  Why do I care about dirty hands and germs so much?  Ugh!
As I calm down, I begin to think about the fuel I needed.  I didn't just need fuel, it appeared I needed my entire engine checked!
I needed God's Word, guiding my thoughts, filling me up, overflowing me with joy.  I should have been thanking God for providing me a car (that works) and a nearby station to get gas.  I should have been thanking Him for a 'low fuel' light and not allowing me to run out of gas on the freeway.  I should have been thanking Him for having the money to buy the gas I needed.  I should have been thanking Him and praising Him, instead of being completely wrapped up in my selfish, sinful thoughts.
I have so many luxuries and so many blessings, but I still continue to fall into the trap of selfish living when I take my focus off God and put the focus on myself and my circumstances.

As for my meeting...I was only 5 minutes late..........to Bible Study!

Later this afternoon, I received an e-mail newsletter from a missionary couple I know.  My earlier selfish attitudes of having to put gas in my car, suddenly seemed so trivial and ridiculous compared to this couples' dire needs for housing and transportation.  Forgive me, Lord.

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Wednesday

Our Dinner Group: 4 couples, over 10 years together, gathering at each others' homes for a meal, conversation and fun! Here's a brief look at our February Get-Together at our house.

I love setting a table with a theme.
Tonight's theme was red and gold for Valentine's Day!

I put out gold chargers with red paper heart doilies that showed through the glass plates.
I put a tiny bouquet of red carnations and a sparkly gold name tag at each place.

Special gatherings always call for chocolate, I put a piece at each plate.
(Growing up, my mom would do this...she still does!)

I only took one picture of the food?!
Menu:
Julia Child's Shrimp Appetizers
Red, White & Blueberry Salad from Simply Classic -Seattle Junior League
Chicken Cordon Bleu with Swiss Cheese Cream Sauce
Artisan Rolls

We celebrated Heidi's birthday with a cake made by Leah.
 Double-chocolate cake
topped with boiled frosting and decorated with
Hershey's Chocolate Drops!  Yum!

After cake and presents, the Dinner Group gang tried out the kids'
new Wii Game--Just Dance For Kids!

The moves got a little crazier when we tried out Michael Jackson's Experience Wii Game.
The evening ended with a tour of Heidi's new car!
A surprise birthday gift from her husband!

Love to you on Valentine's Day, friends!

Got any cute valentines to display?
Make your own card/picture holders with binder clips.

Buy basic black or colored binder clips in all sizes.
I like to use the bigger sizes.

Cut scrapbook paper to fit the size of each clip.
Use a heavy duty glue like QuickGrip, (it dries fast!)
and glue the paper all around the outside of the clip.
Hold in place a few seconds to make it really stick.

They look cute with just paper glued on them, or...

add fun ribbons, stickers, flowers, buttons, etc. with a hot glue gun.

Display your valentines and pictures...

or just use them as fancy clips!
A fun teacher gift too!

Sunday

When you make crafts with 1st graders, they always turn out soooo cute!  Here's a Valentine craft we made at Sunday School with candy heart boxes!  I borrowed this idea from my friend's son who made them in his Preschool class years ago.

Find candy heart boxes with plastic windows in them.
Take a photo of each child.
Cut out the head of each picture.
Carefully open the bottom of each box and tape the pictures inside the boxes, showing through the plastic heart shapes.
Glue the bottom of the boxes closed with hot glue.

Apply self-adhesive magnet tape to the backs of each box.  Use red construction paper to cover up the writing on the front of the boxes.

 Have each child write
"For You
Love, (their name)"
on the red construction paper.

Good work, kids!

Put candy heart box on magnetic surface and admire!

These were the perfect Valentine's gifts to hand out to parents!
