Delightfully Wicked Halloween Hop With Sweet Spider Treats and a Giveaway!

I'm having fun on the blog today with the
Delightfully Wicked Halloween Hop!
I'm excited to be a part of the festivities...

But first, take a look at what's been 'crawling' around our home.
Sweet Spider Treats

 

(I only like spiders if they're chocolaty and cute!)

These sweet arachnids only take a few minutes to 'spin up' and you too can have them crawling around your table...or in your kids' lunchbox...or to your neighbor's home...across the teacher's desk...or right into your mouth!

 

They're super simple to make using:
-clear, plastic condiment cups
-brown colored M&M's (or any other dark candy or items)
-1 sharp, pointed toothpick
-3 brown or black chenille stems (I call them pipe cleaners.)
-2 great big plastic googly eyes. 
-Glue Dots or hot glue gun

(1) Fill a plastic condiment cup with any dark colored candies. 
You could also use other items besides candy...pennies, stickers, etc.  (Unfortunately for me, it always has to be chocolate...preferably dark chocolate!)

 

You can find these plastic, lidded condiment cups at the grocery store or party store.  Look in the picnic aisle right next to the toothpicks.  It's the perfect location, since you'll need a toothpick to punch holes in the lid.

(2) Of course you'll need to make your spider with 8 legs.
(You don't want the kids making comments about inaccurate spiders, right?)
  Place the lid on the cup and use a sharp toothpick to punch four holes along the rim, on each side.  Be sure to leave room for the eyes.

(3)  Cut 4 pipe cleaners in half and place one 'leg' in each hole. You can make the legs any length.  However, they do look more 'spidery' if you bend each leg a bit.

(4) Attach the googly eyes with Glue Dots or a dab of hot glue.

Apple Pun Thank You for Watching the Kids

An Apple Thank You for Watching Our Kids

When a rare opportunity came up for me to join my husband on a business trip, I took it!  Here's a pun-filled thank you to our friends that helped watch our kids while we were away. 
Of course I went with a theme...
 

To The ‘Gala’ Family:

Well, first of all- we can’t believe you
‘fell’ for watching our kids! 
We know many families who would
have ‘wormed’ their way out of that job! 
Thanks for ‘picking’ up our kids and
taking care of them while we were away.
Apparently, your home is much
more ‘appe’aling than ours.    
The kids would ‘apple-y’ live with you forever.
We hope their behavior wasn’t ‘rotten’.
Know that we think you’re awesome to the ‘core’!

It's easy to create your own apple themed gift.
Fill up a basket or bowl with lots of apple goodies.

Apple juice, apple chips, a variety of apples and an Applebee's gift card are just a few ideas.  Chocolate-caramel, nut covered apples sold in specialty stores are amazing, too!  Mmm!

Add the above note (or make up your own)

 

I glued our apple pun letter onto cardstock
and taped on a popsicle stick.

Stick note in the arrangement and hand deliver!

 Now, I would call this gift 'all ripe'!  Don't you think?

Themed Decorating for a Fundraiser Dinner

A Cheesy Fundraiser

Whether you think fundraisers are 'brie'lliant or not.......
CHEESE sure makes a great theme!

Especially when you're dealing with Jr. High and Sr. High students.





This church fundraiser was mostly coordinated by our pastor's wife,
who asked for a bit of help with some puns and décor from me. 
Take a look!

Our church needed to raise funds to hire a new Youth Pastor.
An idea to bring in a cheese sandwich food truck resulted in the fundraiser's theme...
(I love a cheesy theme!)

Of course there is always a very, very small budget when decorating for a church fundraiser. 

**Balloons and gift bag centerpieces to the rescue.

Balloons are (in my opinion) the easiest and most cost effective way to decorate a big space.

I simply tied up a yellow and an orange balloon and taped them to rocks for weight.  Each rock was put in a gift bag.

The tables were numbered, so I numbered each gift bag as well. Yellow tissue paper sat sticking out of each bag.

The best part of using gift bags as centerpieces, is that all the checks and donation paperwork can go directly in the bags after the evening is through...no missing money!

Plastic yellow tablecloths add lots of color as well.

On the evening of the event, the cheese sandwich truck parked itself in the church's parking lot and everyone placed their order.
(It sure helped that the weather was amazing!)

Inside the church was salad, fruit and cheesecake for dessert.
(get it?)

Each table also had lots of cheesy snacks...

Cheez-Its, cheese sticks and Cheetos were greatly appreciated by the teens!

Here's a look inside the cheese truck.

Everyone had a 'grate' evening...aw, come on- you knew I was going to put that in!  The best part is we raised enough money for a Youth Pastor.

I just HAVE to close with a cheesy joke...

What's the most religious cheese? 

Swiss cheese...cause it's the one with all the holes.
(Get it?  'Holy' cheese.) 

Pretty bad...maybe I should try one more? 
This one is AH's favorite cheese joke...

What do you call cheese that isn't yours?

NACHO CHEESE!

Hahahaha!
