Word Clouds for Father's Day!

Warning:  If you are my husband, father or father in-law...DO NOT READ!  You'll ruin your Father's Day gift!  Close out immediately, please.  Thanks... Isn't it nice that these men in my life read my blog?  Isn't it even nicer that they follow directions!  I love you!

My 10 year old daughter came home from school and handed me this!  A picture design using words (and some made up words) that describe me...helpful, fantastic, honest, smart, artsy, fun, scrapbooky?, Momly?
She learned how to make word clouds (subway art) on the website,
http://www.wordle.net/  Her class is making them for an end-of-the-year friendship activity.  So fun!
I immediately made her sit down and teach me how!  I couldn't believe how easy and fun this is!  You type in words and theWordle website arranges them for you in a variety of different fonts and designs.  If you type in the same word multiple times, Wordle will make that word bigger than the rest.

So, we went to work on some Father's Day projects.

I had the kids make a list of words that described their Dad, Grandpa and Papa.

My daughter typed all the words in.

Words that we wanted bigger, were typed in 4-5 times.

After playing with the Randomize button to see all the Wordle designs, we chose a design and changed up the font, the colors and the size.

We printed our creations on glossy photo paper to fit inside

these $1. wood frames from Michaels.

A coat of primer and a couple coats of blue spray paint

was all these frames needed.

I trimmed the paper to fit inside the frames.

That's it!

What a fun Father's Day gift I'm sure they'll enjoy.

  14. Stacia- If you have an Apple, you may have trouble printing. Try this instead: Make your Wordle, then save the screen, copy entire screen page in a Word document. Use the Word tools to cut off the extra screen stuff you don't want to see. Resize your Wordle to the size you want. Good luck and let me know if it works!
